A DSG remap sets it up for you, with faster shifts, torque limits that match a remapped engine, firmer clutch pressure and a manual mode that holds the gear.

What a DSG remap changes
Faster, and where you want them
Shifts get quicker in Sport and manual, and the shift points are moved to suit the engine map. Drive stays as smooth as it was. The change is in the modes where you actually want it.
Limits raised to match the engine
A DSG has its own torque limiter, and on a remapped engine it is often the box rather than the engine ECU that holds the gain back in the lower gears. Raising that limit is what lets the engine remap deliver what it promised.
Pressure raised, clutches protected
The clutches clamp harder to cope with the extra torque. On a dual-clutch box this protects the clutch packs under load rather than wearing them out. The real risk is putting more torque through the box without it.
The DSG and S tronic units we remap
Six and seven speed, wet and dry clutch, across the VW group. If yours is not listed, send the registration and we will tell you plainly.
- DQ200 - the seven-speed dry-clutch box in smaller petrols and diesels: Polo, Golf, A1, A3, Ibiza, Octavia and many more.
- DQ250 - the six-speed wet-clutch box: Golf GTI and R Mk5 to Mk7, S3, Leon Cupra, Octavia vRS.
- DQ381 - the seven-speed wet-clutch box in most current Golf GTI, R, S3 and Cupra models.
- DQ500 - the seven-speed heavy-duty box in the RS3, TT RS, Tiguan and Transporter.
- DL501 - the seven-speed S tronic in longitudinal Audis: A4, A5, A6, A7, Q5 and their S models.
- Hybrid variants - the boxes in the plug-in hybrids, where a file exists for them. Ask us and we will check.

DSG remapping, the questions we get asked
Will it make my DSG jerky in traffic?
No. Drive stays exactly as it was, and the faster, firmer shifts only come in Sport and manual. A file that makes the box jerky in comfort mode is a bad file, and if that ever happened we would put the original back.
My engine is already remapped. Do I need this?
Very probably, if it is a DQ250 or DQ381 behind a Stage 1 engine. The box's own torque limiter will be holding the gain back in the lower gears, and raising it is the difference between a remap you read about and one you can actually feel.
Is the dry-clutch DQ200 safe to remap?
Yes, within its limits, and those limits are lower than the wet-clutch boxes. A DQ200 file is about better shift behaviour and a modest torque increase rather than big numbers, and we will tell you that plainly for your car.
