- 14 day money back
- Your original file kept
What a mobile ECU remap is
Software, not parts
Your engine ECU holds the maps that decide fuelling, boost, injection timing and the torque limits. The manufacturer sets them conservatively, for every market, every fuel grade and every driver. A Stage 1 remap rewrites those maps for your exact engine on standard hardware, giving you more power and torque, a cleaner throttle response, and on a diesel usually better economy at a cruise. Nothing mechanical is touched.
We come to you
The engineer arrives with the laptop, the programming tool and the power supply. The original file is read from your ECU and kept, the new file is written, and the car is scanned before and after. Most cars take around an hour, on your driveway or in the car park at work. All you need is somewhere flat to park and the keys.
Written on a dyno, installed on a driveway
The files are developed by JF Automotive on their 2,000bhp rolling road in Maidstone, for each engine and software version, and tested there before they are used. What the mobile engineer installs is that file. The van does not carry a dyno, and we do not pretend it does. The proving was done before we arrived.
See your car's figures before you book
Enter your registration and you will see your engine's standard power and torque, what it makes after our remap, and the curve between the two. It takes a few seconds and we do not ask for your details.
Around three quarters of cars come back with figures straight away. If yours is not listed yet, that does not mean we cannot tune it. We will tell you plainly rather than quote a number we cannot stand behind.
Mobile remap or workshop remap?
It is the same file, the same tool and the same standard of engineer. The difference is where the car is and what else is done to it on the day. Both are ours, so this is not a sales pitch for one over the other.
Mobile, at your home or work
- Around an hour on your driveway, no day off work, no courtesy car
- The same JF Automotive file a workshop would install
- Fault scan before and after, original file kept, 14 day money back
- Fixed price before anyone turns up, from £245
This is right for a standard car wanting a Stage 1 remap, an economy remap, a gearbox remap or an AdBlue, DPF or EGR delete, which is nearly everything we are asked for.
Check my car →Workshop, at JF Automotive in Maidstone
- Before and after runs on a 2,000bhp four-wheel-drive rolling road, printed
- Stage 2 and 3 with the hardware fitted and mapped together
- A ramp, for anything that has to come off the car
- Custom mapping for a modified or unusual engine
This is right for a modified car, a Stage 2 or 3 build, a printed dyno figure for your own peace of mind, or a car we have not seen before. If that is you, we will say so rather than quote a mobile job we would rather not do.
About JF Automotive →One thing a workshop cannot do any better is the figures. What you see when you put your registration in is the same either way, because it comes from the catalogue the files are written to, not from a salesman.

Your engineer arrives with everything needed, scans the car, reads and keeps the original file, writes the new one, scans again and road tests it. Around an hour all in.
Everything a mobile engineer can do to an ECU
All of it is done from the van, and all of it is quoted on the car first. The emissions work has its own pages because the law around it deserves more than a line.
- Stage 1 performance remap - more power and torque on standard hardware, matched to your exact engine and software version.
- Economy remap - the same tools aimed at torque low down and a lighter throttle at a cruise. Popular with vans, fleets and long commutes.
- Gearbox remap - DSG, S tronic, ZF and xHP. Faster shifts and higher torque limits, matched to the engine map.
- AdBlue, DPF and EGR - switched off in software on your driveway, priced from the registration. If you want one repaired instead, the car goes to JF Automotive in Maidstone. Each has its own page, with the legal position.
- Speed limiter and start-stop - a raised or removed limiter for a van, or the start-stop system switched off, where the ECU allows it.
- GPF, O2 and swirl flap - the petrol particulate filter, lambda monitoring and inlet swirl flaps, switched off in software after a mechanical change or for off-road use.
- Fault code scan - a proper read of every module with live data, and a straight answer about what the codes mean for your car.
- Return to standard - the original file written back, free, on one visit. Lease returns and dealer visits are the usual reasons.
What a mobile remap costs
From £245, and every job is quoted on the car. A three-cylinder hatchback and a twin-turbo estate are not the same file or the same time, so a price list would be a promise we could not keep on your driveway. You get one fixed figure for your car before anyone turns up, and it does not change when we get there.
- Your figures shown before you book, free
- Full fault scan before and after
- Original file kept, so it goes back exactly as it was
- Fully insured engineer, 14 day money back

Mobile remapping, the questions we get asked
Is a Stage 1 remap safe for my engine?
Yes, when the file is written within the limits of the standard components, which is what Stage 1 means. Our files are developed by JF Automotive on their rolling road for each engine and software version, and the gains are set where the turbo, clutch, gearbox and cooling are comfortable rather than at the edge. A remap that chases a headline figure is a different product and we do not sell it as Stage 1.
How long does a mobile remap take?
Around an hour for most cars, on your driveway or at work. Some ECUs have to come out of the car to be read on the bench, as in the photograph at the top of this page, and those take longer. You will be told which yours is when you get your price.
Is a mobile remap as good as one done in a workshop?
The file and the tool are the same, so the result is the same. What a workshop adds is a rolling road to measure it and a ramp for anything mechanical. If you want a printed dyno figure, or the car is modified, we will point you at JF Automotive in Maidstone rather than sell you a mobile job that suits us better than you.
Will a remap affect my warranty?
It can. A manufacturer can decline a warranty claim on the engine or drivetrain if the car has been remapped, and some dealers check. We keep your original file and will put the car back to standard before a dealer visit if you ask. If the car is under manufacturer warranty, that is worth weighing before you book.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes. A remap is a modification and most policies require you to declare it. Many insurers add little or nothing for a Stage 1 remap, but an undeclared one can void a policy. Check before you book.
Will it fail an MOT?
No. The MOT does not inspect engine software, and a Stage 1 remap leaves the emissions equipment in place and working. The exception is any software that switches off emissions equipment, which is why AdBlue, DPF and EGR deletes are for vehicles used off the public road, and have their own pages.
What if a main dealer software update overwrites the remap?
It can happen. We will need to visit again to reload it, which carries a call-out charge starting at £50 depending on where you are. Tell the dealer the car has been remapped before any update and they will usually leave the engine software alone.
What does the 14 day money back guarantee cover?
If you are not happy with your Stage 1 remap, ask within 14 days and we will visit, put the original file back and refund the remap in full. If nothing is wrong with the tune itself there is a flat £50 charge for the visit. It covers Stage 1 remaps, and it does not cover parts, emissions work or gearbox software bought to support a modification.

Remaps UK is the mobile arm of JF Automotive, a Maidstone workshop that has been tuning cars for thirty years. Every file the van installs was written and tested on their rolling road first. If your job turns out to need a ramp or a dyno session rather than a driveway, it goes to them, and you are not passed to a stranger.
