What a Stage 1 performance remap does
More of both, lower down
We rewrite the boost, fuelling and injection timing for your engine and lift the torque limiters, all within what the standard parts can take. The gain arrives from lower in the rev range, which is where you feel it most, pulling away, overtaking and climbing hills with a load on.
A cleaner response
Manufacturers soften the throttle map for smoothness across every driver. A Stage 1 file tightens it, so the car does what your foot asks, when it asks. Most people notice this before they notice the power.
Often better at a cruise, on a diesel
More torque low down means fewer downshifts and less throttle to hold a speed. Driven the same way as before, many diesels use a little less fuel. Driven harder because they now can be, they do not, and that is down to the driver.
Turbo diesel, turbo petrol, or neither
What a Stage 1 file can do depends almost entirely on whether there is a turbo. We would rather tell you now than on your driveway.
Turbo diesel
- The largest torque gain of any engine type
- Felt from low revs: towing, loads, overtaking
- Often a small economy gain at a cruise
- Vans and pickups as much as cars
That covers nearly every diesel sold since the mid 2000s. Put the registration in and the figures for yours are one click away.
Check my car →Turbo petrol
- A smoother, wider gain across the rev range
- Sharper throttle response
- Hot hatches, small turbo engines, most modern petrols
- Premium fuel not required for a Stage 1 file
If the petrol engine has no turbo, the gain from software alone is small. We will say so rather than sell you a remap you would not feel.

We come to you
We scan the car, read and keep the original file, write the new file, scan again and road test it. Around an hour.
What it costs
From £245, and every job is quoted on the car. A three-cylinder hatchback and a twin-turbo estate are not the same file or the same hour, so you get one fixed figure for yours before anyone turns up, and it does not change when we get there.
- Your figures shown before you book, free
- Full fault scan before and after
- Original file kept, so it goes back exactly as it was
- Fully insured engineer, 14 day money back

- No workshop visit, no courtesy car needed
Performance remapping, the questions we get asked
Is a Stage 1 remap safe?
Yes, when the file stays within the limits of the standard parts, which is what Stage 1 means. Ours are developed for each engine and software version on JF Automotive's rolling road. The full answer is here.
How much power will I get?
Put your registration in and see. The figures shown are the catalogue's for your exact engine, not a percentage range. On a 190bhp BMW 320d, for example, it is 220bhp and 440Nm.
Will it affect my warranty or insurance?
A remap can affect a manufacturer warranty on the engine and drivetrain, and it must be declared to your insurer. Most insurers add little or nothing for a Stage 1. The full warranty answer is here.
What if I do not like it?
You have fourteen days, money back, on a Stage 1 remap. We keep your original file, so putting the car back exactly as it was takes one visit. If nothing is wrong with the tune itself, that visit is a flat £50, and the remap is then refunded in full.
Can I have Stage 2 done on the driveway?
Not properly. Stage 2 means hardware being fitted and the file mapped to suit it, which needs a ramp and should be checked on a dyno. That is a job for JF Automotive in Maidstone, and we will say so.
Backed by JF Automotive
Remaps UK is the mobile arm of JF Automotive, a Maidstone workshop that has been tuning cars for thirty years. The files, the calibration work and the rolling road behind your job are theirs. If a job turns out to need a ramp or a dyno session rather than a driveway, it goes to them, and you are not passed to a stranger.
